Adult Learning for Independence and Employment (ALFIE)

Our part-time independent living skills courses enable learners to manage independently at home and within the community, building your confidence along with skills.

Our ALFIE courses are:

  • Part-time for 33 – 35 weeks starting from Monday 5th September 2022
  • Intended for adults with mild to moderate learning difficulties
  • Based in the new ‘ALFIE’ department and purpose designed classrooms at Langley College.

Why study an ALFIE Course?

The courses are fully funded to adults 19+ who are claiming benefits and their earned income (not including benefits) is less than £338 a month.

There are no material costs, however, students on the ‘Going into the community’ course will be required to bring money for refreshments and sometimes for activities such as bowling.

Students coming on the Animal Experience need full overalls and wellingtons, and proof of tetanus immunisation within the last 10 years.

Students may bring a carer or support worker with them if required.

Range of courses

Our ALFIE courses range from Art and Craft, to Animal Management, Cookery and Horticulture.

 

Teaching

Sessions are planned with the individual needs in mind and delivered in a way that supports each group member’s development and participation.

Enrolment

Students may enrol on one or two courses. Students wishing to enrol on the cooking courses must disclose any dietary needs at enrolment.

Further information

Places for new students will be confirmed after the interview stage. Returning students will have their places confirmed after all the enrollment paperwork has been completed in full.
