Hospitality and Catering Interview Process

Level 1 Certificate in Culinary Skills

The Culinary Skills qualifications can help you become a chef or progress to a more senior chef’s role. You will gain a high standard of cookery skills and have the option to learn other workplace essentials like health and safety in a kitchen. The Culinary Skills qualifications are for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. It is ideal for learners coming straight from school who wish to seek a career in this industry. It is also ideal for those chefs in industry who would like to continue or refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification.

Please expect conversations around your aspirations/career choice, as well as discussions around predicted GCSE grades. A member of the ALS team may also be present to discuss any learning support needs.

Please bring with your your Maths and English GCSE predicted grades as well as any questions you may have for the interviewer.

Your interview will be face to face.

Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Skills

The Culinary Skills qualification can help the learner become a chef or progress to a more senior chef’s role. They will gain a high standard of cookery skills and have the option to learn other workplace essentials like health and safety in a kitchen. The Culinary Skills qualification are for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. The Level 2 Culinary Skills qualification will suit learners who have some basic skills and experience as a chef, probably from a role where you work under supervision or want to gain a formal qualification and increase your skills so that you can take on a more senior role. It is also ideal for those chefs in industry who would like to continue to refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification.

Please also do make yourself aware of the course entry requirements found on the course page on our website, as these are very specific. A member of the ALS team may also be present to discuss any learning support needs.

Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery

The Professional Cookery qualifications can help the leanrer become a chef or progress to a more senior chef’s role. They will gain a high standard of cookery skills and have the option to learn other workplace essentials like health and safey in a kitchen. This qualification is for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. The Level 3 NVQ in Professional Cookery (Kitchen and Larder Modules Only) qualification will suit learners who have worked in a professional kitchen for some time or have already attained a Level 2 qualification. Your work might involve supervising others. You want to develop your skills further, perhaps to become a specialist chef or move into a management role. It is also ideal for those chefs in industry who would like to continue or refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification.

You will need to bring evidence of any Level 1 and Level 2 cookery qualifications and must show you are currently working in the industry.
